Neighborhood NEWS for YOU!
It’s been a busy year with much activity this summer and into the fall. And there’s more to
come – both on the education front and in soon to be welcoming a new neighbor at the
Babcock Medical Centre on Babcock Road at the corner of West Beverly Mae.
Bicycle Maintenance and Safety Classes on the Calendar for October
Mark your calendars for the afternoons (time to be announced later) of November 15 and 22 for two bicycle classes for young and old alike. With the number of bicycle accidents and the increased popularity of the sport, Joe Dominguez, a longtime Dreamhill resident and a bike aficionado himself, has been working to set up the classes.
Sara Reid, a bike professional, will teach the class on November 15 on bike maintenance. The second class on November 22 on bike safety will be taught by Steve Bizany.
These classes will be a great opportunity to learn about safety and how to maintain your bike in tip-top condition.
Planned Parenthood Will Own and Occupy 2140 Babcock
The major construction work underway for the past few months at 2140 Babcock is in preparation for Planned Parenthood’s occupation of the building by the end of the year. The 22,000 square foot building will house its headquarters for San Antonio and south Texas and an ambulatory surgical center. Board president Vicki Chew met this week with the building representative with whom she’s been communicating about the planned driveway project that was halted by neighborhood action and the sale of the building several months ago. The current tenant, Mission Rehabilitation, will remain in the building, as a tenant of Planned Parenthood.
As noted earlier, the planned driveway/exit on to West Beverly Mae is now a thing of the past and the sidewalk has been restored. There is a plan to plant trees along the grassy verge on West Beverly Mae and to continue the row of crepe myrtles parallel to the sidewalk.
An expansive story in the Express-News today, Sunday, October 12, gives more detail on the project.
National Night Out is a Big Success
Last week’s NNO celebration turned out to be a lot of fun. Many people showed up to make this a success. Next year we are considering doing a cookout as part of this event. Thanks to all of you who made it out.
