Please understand that these resources and the help offered here is offered by neighbor volunteers and will be done to the best of our abilities under the physical distancing guidelines set forth by local law and health officials. This is NOT assistance for medical emergencies. If you need urgent care, please contact your doctor or dial 911.

Dear Dreamhill Neighbor,

During these uncertain times, the neighbors of Dreamhill wanted you to know that you are not alone. If you need something we are here for you. If you feel isolated and want to talk, there are neighbors who you can call. Self-isolated does not mean you have to BE lonely. And, you are certainly not alone. We are all in this together.

If you need food, medicine, or other critical services, there are community services available (below) and there are neighbors who are willing to help you find those services.

Neighbors are available at:
Email: help@dreamhill.org
Call/text:210-775-1824

If you know of resources that should be added to this page, you can forward them via the email or phone/text above. You can also leave comments and suggestions in the comment box below.

We are also looking for neighbors interested in volunteering. If you are willing to volunteer a little time to talk with or help neighbors in need, please reach out as well. Please help make a difference for a neighbor.

Thank you,
The DENA Board

Ideas and other resources:

If you are feeling depressed or anxious your insurance company can put you in touch with a mental health provider. Most insurance companies are allowing telehealth and waiving copays and/or deductibles for this service.

There are also online counseling programs available: BetterHelp.com is one of the top rated. Here is a list of others from e-counseling.

Many insurance companies are also allowing telehealth for doctors visits. Check with your doctor to see if this is appropriate for you.

If you are concerned about making bill payments the next couple of months, many credit cards, banks and utilities are offering to defer or make extended payment plans. Call these companies if you are concerned. It can’t hurt to ask what programs they have in place to help alleviate hardships in these trying times.

Medical Advice

We have a retired doctor living in the neighborhood who is willing to provide information about how to evaluate symptoms and what actions to take.If you would like to talk with him, please call or email (above) and he will get in touch.

Non-Medical Government Updates

Subject: Albert Uresti – IMPORTANT Motor Vehicle Registration Information
Dear Bexar County Citizens,

This is Albert Uresti, Bexar County Tax Assessor Collector, reminding you that as of March 16, 2020 a temporary waiver to obtain initial registrations, renewal registrations, and renewal of Disability placards is in place. This temporary waiver also includes individuals with an expired 30 day/72hr/144hr permits. This temporary waiver applies to all vehicle owners in all Texas counties. The waiver is in effect until 60 days after the notice is lifted and regular services have resumed. Effective immediately, there is no requirement for a title application to be submitted within a specific time. As a result, the delinquent transfer penalty does not apply to any title applications submitted between March 16, 2020 and 60 days after the TxDMV provides notice normal titling services have resumed. This extension does not apply to seller-financed motor vehicle sales. In these cases, the tax is reported and paid directly to the Comptroller’s office instead of the Tax Assessor-Collector upon registration. I hope this information helps. Please be safe and do not hesitate to call our office at 210-335-2251 for more information. Thank you and God Bless.

Bexar County Residents,

Residents who are already behind on their power or water bill will be glad to know that CPS Energy and SAWS have announced that there will be no non-payment disconnects until further notice. Your power and water will stay on until we get past this COVID-19 outbreak. You can still request an application for utility assistance by emailing clientservices@bexar.org or calling 210-335-3666. There is also still a skeleton crew operating at the Vista Verde building for walkups, but for the sake of everyone’s public safety, we strongly encourage you submit your request via email or phone, or wait until the outbreak has passed.

  1. Denny’s Restaurant, just south of Wonderland on 4510 Fredericksburg Rd., is offering 25% discount on meals called into their restaurant. Their number is 210-732-1907, and they do counter walk-in, curbside and free delivery. They also are offering four produce packages. Orders can be placed at Dennys.com, but no discount comes with these online orders. Stop by and ask for a takeout menu.

  2. It was just reported to me that Rome’s Pizza and Martha’s Pizza were selling groceries. If you have been unable to get what you need at HEB or Walmart, this might be another source. Other restaurants may be taking similar actions. If you find out about others, post it in the comments here.

  3. FYI from Carlos Resendez

Bexar County property owners waiting to know — or protest — their property values will have to wait a few more weeks.

The Bexar County Appraisal District has delayed the notification of appraised values to tax agents until April 18, rather than April 1, the district announced in a news release. The district plans to send property owners their notices by the end of May.

Property owners can still protest their values 30 days after receiving notices. The Appraisal District has closed its office for further starting March 23. Documents can be mailed to the district and staff are still available via phone.

The district’s board of directors discussed last Friday the possibility of rolling back property values to last year’s assessment, allowing residents one less concern as they work through the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, reported the San Antonio Heron, a nonprofit news organization.

“If I can avoid sending out 625,000 notices to a panicked community, I think that would be best,” said Chief Appraiser Michael Amezquita, according to the report. “If I were a tax payer, which I am, I would think it would be insensitive, if not callous, if not irresponsible, to send these out.”

Additionally, the Appraisal District announced March 24 that it would extend renditions — reports that business owners must submit to the district detailing all tangible personal property, such as equipment and inventory, used to produce income — for 30 days. The deadline to file is now May 15.

A 10% deadline may be imposed by the district if renditions are not filed or filed after the deadline. However, business owners can file a request for an additional 15-day extension before May 15.

“Business owners and others in our community are scrambling to do their part to contain the spread of COVID‐19; filing required renditions are the furthest thing from their minds right now,” Amezquita said in a news release. “While I cannot waive the requirement to file renditions, I am allowed to grant extensions and that is certainly necessary.”

  4. Financial Advice
If any neighbor has fallen into difficult financial times and need assistance in managing their financial crisis, I am willing to assist in advising them on how to sustain themselves during this trying period.
