Neighborhood Action

Dear Neighbors,

quatrafoil-acs

This past week it was reported a pack of three dogs attacked and seriously injured a neighbor’s pets that were in their own backyard on Dorothy Louise. Additionally, a doe was found critically maimed but not yet dead, in the vicinity of Dorothy Louise and Betty Lou.

Loose dogs in a pack are nothing new to Dreamhill Estates. In this case, one was a larger yellow labrador type with a collar on, and another had a collar on also but I do not have a description of them. These dogs were seen in the area the morning of the attack by other neighbors but they were unaware of what had happened at the time.

It is not clear whether the dogs had anything to do with the injured deer, but here is the best possible information I can pass along to all of you based on past similar incidences as well as what occurred this time.

1. Animal Control Services (ACS) “WILL NOT” come out and chase loose animals. They do not have the resources to do this. In order for ACS to come out, the animal must be contained. This means either penned up somewhere such as in your backyard or a cage, or tethered so that they can’t get away.

2. Then call ACS at 207-4738. They may not pick the animal up for up to 48 hours last time I checked. Please keep that in mind if you are going to cage or tether the animal. This is their site: www.sanantonio.gov/animalcare/contactus.aspx

3. Whenever there is an injured deer (or any wild animal) to the point they “cannot walk” – – that is the key – – please call the game warden. SAPD will not come out and shoot an injured wild animal! Our game warden’s name is David Chavez and the office number is 348-7375. He is familiar with our neighborhood.

On another note, Dreamhill Estates has a lot of traffic all year long from contractors and neighboring communities, to name a few. With this visibility it sometimes attracts the wrong kind of person. It is deer rutting season and a time when people feel they can “hunt” in our neighborhood. If you see any suspicious activity of vehicles driving around slowly after dark, maybe using spot lights, please call the SAPD non-emergency number, 207-7273. The more information you can give them, especially a license plate number, the better. However, if you see someone shooting at the deer with a gun ‘or’ bow and arrow, please call 911 immediately! This is for the safety of everybody in our neighborhood, especially your neighbor who lives in the house behind the deer being shot at.

Thank you for taking notice to help make Dreamhill Estates a nice place to live.

Sincerely yours,
Vicki Chew
