General Neighborhood Meeting Oct 26 at 7:15 p.m. to Discuss Zoning Issue:
There will be a neighborhood meeting at the former church now owned by Carlos and Carolyn Resendez at 4818 East Beverly Mae on Thursday, October 26 to hear a presentation on a proposed zoning change in our neighborhood. The SA Express-News in June announced that QuikTrip (www.quiktrip.com), a Tulsa-based company with 700+ stores in 11 states, would make a 100-store expansion into South Texas, and would open its first store in San Antonio in 2018. Since then, it appears the proposed site is the corner of Babcock Road and East Beverly Mae in Dreamhill Estates.
Building at this location would require not only zoning changes, but also a re-routing or closure of this part of East Beverly Mae to provide the necessary footprint.Although the District 8 office, when called, indicated the project is in the preliminary stages, several people have already reported surveyors working in the area. Should the project progress, it could result in the closing of the East Beverly Mae entrance onto Babcock, or possibly re-routing the street to the light at Babcock and Louis Pasteur, which would have significant ramifications on the neighborhood.
QuikTrip convenience stores feature a large array of gasoline and diesel pumps, and bright lighting. The stores operate 24/7 and sell a large quantity of items, priced low for high-volume sales, such as beer, soda, coffee, cigarettes, and candy. They also have in-store kitchens serving made-to-order food – pizza, breakfast burritos and toasted sandwiches, as well as soft-serve ice cream and milkshakes.
